Annual Events in West Bay

From summer festivals and harbour celebrations to winter traditions, West Bay hosts a varied calendar of events throughout the year.

  • Held every Sunday morning from April to October at the West Bay Road Car Park, the weekly car boot sales attract sellers and bargain hunters from across Dorset and make for a relaxed way to spend a spring or summer morning.

  • Usually held in late May, Pirates Day is a family-friendly event centred around the harbour, with pirate-themed games, fancy dress competitions and entertainment throughout the day.

  • Held in early August, West Bay Weekend is a lively community celebration featuring live music, food stalls and a spectacular fireworks display over Jurassic Pier.

  • Taking place in mid-August, Jurassic Fields Festival is a popular three-day music event held at West Bay Fields, showcasing a mix of local and national performers.

  • Usually held on the third weekend of August, Bridport Carnival features colourful floats on the Saturday, followed by the famous Sunday Torchlight Procession, when thousands of people carry flaming torches from Bridport to West Bay for a beach bonfire and fireworks.

  • Held on the last Thursday of August at the nearby West Bay Showground, the Melplash Show is one of the south-west’s best-known agricultural exhibitions, with livestock, local produce, displays and family entertainment.

  • Taking place in late October, Bonfire by the Beach is a charity-focused community event on East Beach, with a large bonfire, live music and fireworks by the sea.

  • Held every year on 26 December, the Boxing Day Swim is a festive West Bay tradition where hundreds of swimmers take to the harbour at midday, often in fancy dress, while raising money for local charities.
